On Saturday 12th May 30 students aged 16-19 from schools and colleges across Birmingam and the West Midlands travelled to Manchester to experience life in another big city. Students had a behind the scenes tour of the BBC studios before taking a short walk to the Old Trafford stadium where our learners put aside their allegiance to their Birmingham based football clubs as they learnt about the history of Manchester United and marvelled at the size of the 3rd biggest football stadium in the UK. Students spent the afternoon exploring University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, as they thought about whether they could see themselves living in a city not too dissimilar to their own. The day came to an end with a formal meal in Whitworth Art Gallery. For the majority of students, this was their first time in Manchester, and for many it was their first time outside of the Midlands. Following the visit, 77% of students agreed or strongly agreed that they would fit in at University, and 74% would consider moving away from home.
