STEM Club Career Profile: Ecology

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay. As part of our STEM Club, learners found out about ecologists and how they are helping to protect our environment.

So what is an Ecologist?

Ecologists survey the plants and animals on a site to make sure that they are protected and try to understand how human changes affect our ecosystems. No two days are the same for an ecologist. They could be out on site in a river looking for otters, surveying for bats in a woodland, counting newts in a garden pond or working with the engineers in the office to come up with a solution to an environmental challenge. The small improvements ecologists can build into future developments by working alongside engineers are helping to improve the status of our protected habitats and species in the UK.

Learners at our STEM Club got to find out about what ecologists do and what routes they would need to take for a career in ecology. They then tested out their ID and tracking skills with an ecology field signs quiz.
